Advertised as the Big EASY Ukulele TAB Songbook - But the title is a lie. This isn't a book of easy to play songs. And only some parts of the songs have tab. If you aren't already good at reading sheet music and have the ability to play a large variety of bar and more complex chord shapes this will be more like the Big Difficult Ukulele Sheet Music Book. If you have a solid ability to read sheet music and can play a lot of more complex chords this book will probably be great. If you were hoping for easy arrangements in tab keep looking. Check out the attached images.
I'm a beginning mandolin player, and figured it might be fun to switch from the folk music I've been playing and play some more modern tunes.First, don't make the mistake I made: the other publisher's mandolin books are all contained in this book. You'll be wasting money if you buy this and any other mando book from this publisher.The Good:* Good selection- There's a wide smattering of songs, and probably several that you know/like. I will say that it skews towards late 70's through mid 80's music. The band list should give you a good idea.* Good price- It's not terribly expensive.The Bad* Not spiral-bound- The book doesn't like to stay open. Which sucks.* Reproduces music found in other books from this publisher and is very coy about what it does and doesn't contain.* Not really a beginner's book- Probably more intermediate than beginner. There's a *lot* of notation here that has no explanation for a beginner. Which leads me to the next point.* Not much tab- I saved the biggest for last. Most of the tab in this book is maybe a measure or two long, and the rest of the song has some chord notation, but that's it. For a book that's supposed to be full of tab, I'd say 80% of the music herein is all traditional notation. Several songs contain no tab at all. It's just frustrating because while I'm learning standard notation, I can't sight read and am a ways away from it, so most of this book is useless for me until I develop my skillset.So here's the thing. Can you read standard notation fairly well? This book might be worth it. Looking for a book of tab? Skip it.
The selection of songs is pretty good, but the addition of tab is hit and miss....most songs either do not have ukelele tab or have a few chords written in tab as an introduction.
Great book. It has tablature where it is needed, and chord fretboards / strumming patterns where they are needed.
Good beginning book with an odd mix of songs. There were only about 5 that were interesting and a few that seemed impossible to render for uke
